Geneva, Switzerland -Stromasys today added
the top-performing CHARON-VAX/6660 Plus
for Windows to its product family of VAX
6000 emulators. The CHARON-VAX family of
products are software products running on
modern Windows or Alpha systems and emulating
the legendary VAX computers of Digital Equipment
Corporation (DEC, now HP). The virtual VAX
created by CHARON-VAX permits the installation
of any VAX operating system, like VAX/VMS,
and the execution of the binary user application
without any modification or recompilation.
This allows the user to replace his old
hardware immediately by modern hardware,
significantly reducing maintenance cost,
and preserving current investments in applications
and staff. In addition, CHARON-VAX enables
the user to extend his application on the
modern platform while increasing the application
performance at the same time.
The CHARON-VAX/6660 Plus for
Windows product announced today emulates
a VAX 6000, model 660 system with six CPUs
and - depending on the host system's configuration
- can provide the performance of 450+ VUPS
on industry standard servers currently available
on the market with eight single-core or
four dual-core CPUs. This is a performance
range that was never reached by the original
VAX machines. The virtual VAX created using
CHARON-VAX/6660 can build clusters like
any real VAX, including shared disk clustering
and NI clustering. It can provide VAX memory
sizes up to 2 GB.
