Geneva,
Switzerland Stromasys announced today that its CHARON-VAX
emulator of the popular VAX and MicroVAX
products has been accepted by Compaq Computer
Corporation as accurately and faithfully
modeling the popular VAX family hardware.
VAX and MicroVAX systems were developed
and sold by Digital Equipment Corporation
(now Compaq) for over twenty years, and
there are many systems are still in active
use around the world running commercial
and government applications.
CHARON-VAX was designed
by Stromasys to prolong the use of VAX and MicroVAX
applications by transferring all, operating
system and applications, to new hardware
platforms without any conversion. CHARON-VAX
includes a set of tools to facilitate the
transfer to the new platform without requiring
the original source code or software installation
information.
Versions of CHARON-VAX
are available to run on standard laptop,
desktop, and server PCs under Windows NT
and Windows 2000 and on Compaq Alpha systems
under OpenVMS. CHARON-VAX is a true
hardware emulator, it runs VAX binary code
independent of the operating system used
for the VAX application. The CHARON-VAX
product verification used the standard acceptance
procedures employed to verify VAX family
hardware, with the test software and procedures
provided by Compaq. The tests included passing
100,000 error free test runs for each VAX
instruction type against the formal VAX
design standard.
Compaq makes available transfer
licenses permitting current VAX customers
to move their existing Compaq-licensed software
to CHARON-VAX. For more information
on these licenses, please consult: http://www.openvms.compaq.com/openvms/sri-charon-vax-emulator.html.
