Stromasys
signed a contract with STN ATLAS Elektronik
GmbH in Bremen, Germany, to provide a MS
Windows based package for development of
interactive tools to access its library
of Magneto-Optical disks written in the
VMS ODS-2 format. The design of the VMSDisk
package is based on ActiveX objects and
allows reading, writing, formatting and
erasing VMS formatted file structures and
(MO) disks while the drives are connected
to a MS Windows system.
The package provides interactive
data interchange with any of the MS Windows
file systems (FAT/FAT32/NTFS/NTFS 5), and
will work MS Windows NT, MS Windows 2000
and MS Windows XP. It provides direct access
in MS Windows to VMS specific information
like the volume label and directory listing
from various Windows programming environments
(MS Visual C++, MS Visual Basic, MS VBScript).
The package will be implemented as an In-Process
Server (OCX).
The VMSDisk package is an
example of the custom services provided
by Stromasys to provide
compatibility and migration tools for the
thousands of VAX systems that are still
in operation all over the world. Integration
of legacy systems with new platforms and
the use of compatibility and data conversion
tools can provide significant cost savings
by retaining access to existing company
data.
