Stromasys provides control room upgrade for a power station in Turkey

Energy Systems Technology Ltd. (EST) of Instanbul, Turkey, placed an order with Stromasys for hardware, software and installation services as an essential part of the renovation of the control room at a major power station in Turkey.

In partnership with EST and ABB Normelec of Zurich, Switzerland, Stromasys will replace two existing PDP-11 based control systems with a modern Intel based platform. The new platform will use the CHARON-11 PDP-11 emulator to be able to run the existing PDP-11 control system software, connected to an ABB ED1000 industrial control system system via a PCI to QBus adapter supplied by The Logical Company of Cottage Grove, Oregon, USA.

The project will also upgrade the RUMOR operating system to RSX-11M+ (running on the Intel platform via CHARON-11) thus facilitating multiuser access and ensuring better performance. The CHARON-11 virtual network interface CHANA will be used to provide a direct connection with the host TCP/IP network facilities. The existing BECOS10 control system environment will be reconfigured, and the ED1000 hardware interface will be migrated to a Qbus interface.

This project will be delivered in approximately 60 days to deliver a very costeffective solution for immediate deployment, while avoiding the expense and delay of a total re-write of the applications software. The operational deployment is scheduled in the first half of 2001.
