Stromasys signed a contract
with the of the Geological Survey of Lower
Saxony (NLfB) and the German Federal institute
for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR)
to add extensive Internet capability of
the MeMaS information system. MeMaS provides
access to large databases with detailed
information about soil and geology, and
also integrates a large set of data evaluation
methods. MeMaS makes specialized information
like maps available to scientists, business,
public sector and citizens and is used by
a number of public and government organizations
in Germany
The NLfB is a government-funded
institute under the authority of the Ministry
of Economics, Technology and Transport of
the state of Lower Saxony. The NLfB regards
MeMaS as one of its strategic cornerstones
in the collection and the distribution of
geological and soil information in doing
so.
Stromasys
will provide a new Internet-capable user
interface based on Java and HTML to facilitate
document browsing, downloading and support
of client-server connections via the Internet.
The ability to navigate through the database
(which contains descriptions about millions
of heterogenous relational and geometric
data rows i.e. soil units, sample data)
will be improved. The MeMaS servers will
be modified to handle information requests
via the Internet, register users and log
information requests, with a design based
on Microsoft's Internet Information server.
The project will be completed
in December 2001.
