Stromasys has migrated the MPS Production system for ABB's Printing Business Unit

Stromasys, Geneva, Switzerland received an order from ABB's Printing Division in Baden, Switzerland to provide the software migration for ABB's "MPS Production" system from OpenVMS/Alpha to Microsoft Windows 2000.

"MPS Production" is a press production management application in the family of ABB's Master Printing Systems (MPS). It controls the product planning, production preparation and press presetting for printing presses, and typically runs on a configuration of 2 - 6 Alpha/OpenVMS systems. The contract is awarded based on a 4-week feasibility study by Stromasys, which analyzed the various migration solutions and resulted in a migration proposal with guaranteed delivery and cost estimates. With two weeks after submitting the proposal the 3 man-year project was awarded and started, with a scheduled delivery in June 2001.

Dr. Georg Maier, development manager in the Printing business unit of ABB Industry AG said: "We contacted Stromasys on recommendation from one of our departments to whom they supply products and services, and we were impressed by their ability to quickly analyze and propose a comprehensive solution. Our customers are demanding this product on a Windows 2000 platform with a tight delivery schedule. The fact that Stromasys is specialized in complex platform migrations, started the on-site feasibility study within one week and allocated a competent team within days gives us full confidence that we will meet our schedule".

Dr. Robert Boers, the CEO of Stromasys commented: "Customer demands and technology changes frequently require the migration of software to a new platform, an area we specialize in. We understand that such change requirements can impact budgets and in-house planning in a significant way. It is our goal to reduce that impact by proposing a two step process that minimizes disruption of the in-house staff, and offering these services on a turn-key, fixed price basis.

"ABB serves manufacturing, process and consumer industries, utilities, the oil and gas sector and infrastructure markets, with 160,000 employees in more than 100 countries. The Business Unit Printing, www.abb.com/printing, is a member of the Business Area Paper, Printing, Metal & Minerals within the Process Industries Segement of the ABB group and resides in Baden, Switzerland.
