CHARON AXP 4/266 can replace the following AlphaServer systems by providing the exact Alpha hardware interface of the original system inside a non-Alpha computer:

  • AlphaServer   400 4/166, 4/233

  • AlphaServer 1000 4/200, 4/233 and 4/266

  • AlphaServer 2000 4/200, 4/233 and 4/275

  • AlphaServer 2100 4/200, 4/233 and 4/275

  • AlphaStation 200 and 255

CHARON-AXP 4/266 product features:

  • Alpha 21064 (EV4) CPU virtualization and comparable performance

  • Max. 4 GB of virtual Alpha memory

  • Storage adapter (max 10, allowing max. 1200 storage devices)

  • Virtual Alpha disks (choice from Windows container files, Windows physical disks or raw SCSI disk devices.

  • Tape device support (physical and windows container files)

  • CD-ROM

  • Floppy drive

  • Max. 4 Ethernet ports

  • Serial line controller (8 ports)

  • 2 COM-ports

  • VT type terminal emulator

  • Supports OpenVMS 6.2-1h3 and newer, Tru64 3.1 and newer

  • Clustering supported (NI)

CHARON-AXP requires a CPU host system with multi-core Intel or AMD processor, 2.6 GHz or faster in order to deliver equal or slightly better performance than the original AlphaServer.
Memory requirement: 1.5 GB + the amount of emulated Alpha memory.

Special licensing is available to support concurrent use of multiple CHARON-AXP instances inside 1 host system or in a company network, review the documentation for more details.
